The Netflix hit series Rabo de Peixe was filmed across São Miguel island. Here's your complete guide to every location — from the fishing village to the volcanic craters.
Originally titled Rabo de Peixe in Portuguese. Based on true events from 2001.
Eduardo and his friends discover a massive cocaine shipment washed ashore. What starts as a chance at escape from their fishing village quickly spirals into a dangerous game with drug traffickers, corrupt police, and their own community.
The fallout from Season 1 tears the group apart. Eduardo faces prison while his friends try to survive the attention of criminal networks. New locations including Santa Maria Island are introduced. A companion documentary — "The Surreal Story of Rabo de Peixe" — was released alongside.
Eduardo returns to Rabo de Peixe after three years in prison to find his hometown transformed by corrupt political and economic interests. He forms "Justiça da Noite" (Night Justice) with Sílvia, Rafael, and Carlos — a clandestine movement fighting for the community. The final season.
All locations are publicly accessible. Click each to see what was filmed there and how to visit.

The heart of the series. This real fishing village on the north coast of São Miguel is where the story of Eduardo and his friends unfolds. The São Pedro Gonçalves Sports Center and the local cemetery are key recurring locations.

In 2001, a massive cocaine shipment — estimated at over a tonne — washed ashore near Rabo de Peixe after a drug trafficking operation went wrong at sea. Local fishermen discovered the packages and, rather than reporting them, distributed the drugs through the community.
The events that followed — arrests, community divisions, police corruption, and the impact on a tight-knit fishing village — inspired the Netflix series. The companion documentary Turn of the Tide: The Surreal Story of Rabo de Peixe (October 2025) covers the real events in full.

Turn of the Tide has put the Azores on the global map. Here's what's changed since the series launched.
