Azores Archipelago — Portugal
Complete guide for remote workers & digital nomads across all 9 islands.
About the Archipelago
The Azores archipelago consists of 9 volcanic islands scattered across 600km of the mid-Atlantic Ocean, roughly 1,500km west of Lisbon. Formed by the same tectonic forces that created Iceland and the Canary Islands, the Azores sit at the junction of three tectonic plates — making them one of the most geologically active inhabited landscapes on earth.
The islands are divided into three geographic groups: the Eastern Group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), the Central Group (Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Faial, and Pico), and the Western Group (Flores and Corvo). Each group has a distinct character — and each island within each group is completely different from its neighbours.
For remote workers and digital nomads, São Miguel is the clear primary destination — with the best internet, most housing, and only established nomad community. But the other islands offer extraordinary experiences for those willing to explore beyond the main island.
